DEEP OCEAN LIFE Maggie Grant Natalie Barte 8B

OVERVIEW Deep underwater, it is full of live. There are many corals and deep sea creatures that aren’t even discovered yet because of how deep they thrive in. But because of our new technology today we have discovered creatures we wouldn’t have believed we existed 20 years ago. Life underwater is another puzzle we are still trying to figure out.

VOCABULARY Diverse : When something is diverse, it is different, unique, etc.. Ex: The deep underwater creatures that live underwater are very diverse. http://ocean.si.edu/deep-sea Ocean Drilling: Ocean Drilling is when big drills are used to drill through the ocean floor to study and research Ex: Chikyu’s drill has the largest drill and is part of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program http://ocean.si.edu/deep-sea

VOCABULARY Deep Ocean Corals – Corals that live deep underwater. http://ocean.si.edu/deep-sea Scientist : A scientist is a person who studies, researches and discovers things. There are many type of scientists out there that study different topics. http://ocean.si.edu/deep-sea

VOCABULARY Gulper Eel – The gulper eel is an eel with an unusual large mouth that can be larger than its own body. Their mouth can be used as a net rather than using it to eat big fish. Their teeth, pectoral fins and their eyes are small for a deep sea creature. They can live from 500 to 6000 feet. http://www.seasky.org/deep-sea/gulper-eel.html Atlantic Hagfish – The Atlantic Hagfish have glands that can be called slime. They can actually “sneeze” when their noses are filled with slime. Atlantic Hagfish prefer to be on the soft sea floor where they can bury themselves just in case. They live down to 5600 feet and are found in both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean. And can go as far as Norway. http://www.seasky.org/deep-sea/atlantic-hagfish.html

CONCEPT The concept of deep ocean life is that there is a whole new world out there right below our feet and under where we can’t reach, see or discover yet but we are still trying to with our new technology and devices that help us along the way. Deep underwater there are many things to research and learn about.

IMPACT Deep Ocean Life has a big impact on us. We don’t know what could happen or what is down there. It can be dangerous or harmless we don’t know we are still learning and discovering. But once we accidentally make a mistake things could get wrong.
