2. Assessment and Evaluation Feedback will be provided to all students in all areas of the curriculum based on their achievement in the following categories of knowledge and skills: Knowledge and Understanding: Accuracy of information Thinking: Relevance and logic to skill, concept or topic Use of problem solving or critical thinking strategies Communication: Clarity, fluency and expression Accuracy and fluency in use of language Logical organization of information and ideas Application: Connections made to other knowledge and skills

3. Assessment and Evaluation Assessment: Is the process of gathering information from a variety of sources such as day- to day observations, conferences, demonstrations, assignments, performances, projects and tests Evaluation: Refers to the process of assigning a level which represents a student’s overall achievement. Once a level has been determined, a percentage is assigned according to the following scale: Level 4 – 80-100%: Identifies achievement that surpasses the standard but NOT the grade level. Achievement reflects “thorough understanding”. Students performing at this level demonstrate their knowledge and skills “with a high degree of effectiveness”. Level 3 – 70-79% (Provincial Standard): This level identifies a high level of achievement of the provincial expectations. Students achieving at this level can be confident that they are prepared to address the expectations of the next grade or course. Level 2 - 60 -69%: Identifies achievement that approaches but does not meet the provincial standard. Performance reflects “some knowledge and understanding”. Students performing at this level are able to demonstrate some knowledge of what they know Level 1 – 50 – 59%: Identifies achievement that falls much below the standard and is not considered to be at grade level. Achievement at this level reflects “limited knowledge and understanding.”

Term 1 Math Expectations: Grade 8 Number Sense and Numeration Represent, order, subtract, multiple and divide integers using various strategies Solve multi-step problems involving integers Solve expressions involving integers (PA) Measurement Measure the circumference, radius, and diameter of circles using concrete materials Determine the relationship for calculating the circumference and area of a circle Solve problems involving the circumference and area of a circle Geometry and Spatial Sense Determine the angle relationships for intersecting lines, parallel lines and transversals Solve angle-relationship problems involving triangles and intersecting lines Patterning and Algebra Represent the general term of a linear pattern, using one or more algebraic expressions Determine a term, given its term number, in a linear pattern that is represented by a graph or an algebraic equation Data Management and Probability will not be formally assessed this term
