AGENDA  10.00 - 11.00 Review of Moderation  11.00 - 11.15 Coffee  11.15 - 12.30 Assessment of New AS Exemplar Materials  12.30 - 1.30Lunch  1.30 - 3.00Exemplar Materials

Assessment Overview  Two Modules  One Module covers the theory and is assessed by examination  One Module is coursework which includes two tasks which will be internally assessed and externally Moderated  Each Module has a 50 % weighting at AS

AS ICT Assessment Availability  Summer and Winter for Module 1  Summer only for Module 2 Examination Paper  A number of compulsory structured questions covering the range of content and the range of grades  QWC will also be assessed

AS Specification ComponentDescription Weighing of AS Key Date(s) Data Processing Database Spreadsheet 25%April Multimedia Presentation Web Design 25%April Examination Structured Questions 50%Jan/June

Approaches to AS coursework Each Task will be assessed separately. Students can use one information system for both tasks. Tasks can also have different information systems. Students should consider whether they will be doing A2.

If the student selects the task with teacher guidance it may not allow for scope for A2 coursework as there is no real end user. If there is no potential end user within tasks then no scope for A2 as a continuation of AS. Selection of Software is centre based – think of A2 to help make decision Approaches to AS coursework

Submission of Coursework Data ProcessingMultimedia Project Folder All hard copy evidence Submit in sections Electronic Format All links etc. should be working CD is fine

Moderators Report Majority of centres correctly applied the assessment criteria Centres made good use of the portfolio clinic in February 2009 Majority of tasks were appropriate for AS Evidence of good teacher guidance Meaningful teacher comments/annotation was useful to the Moderation team

Moderators Report Record sheets must be fully completed ( Ofqual regulation) Data processing task should be submitted in a suitable folder in clearly indicated sections Multi-media task should be submitted electronically ( CD is better than USB pen) Technical issues are the responsibility of centres Nearly 10% arithmetic errors !

Moderators Report Data Processing  User requirements should focus on information system  Candidates need to consider all components to achieve full marks – Charts, Macros  Testing plan should include evidence of actual testing – screen dumps  User documentation is of a high standard

Example of Testing

Moderators Report Multi-media  Storyboard – Comprehensive and well presented including navigation  Multi-media – Good range of media and assets, but technical difficulties  Evaluation – Appropriate reference to storyboard, suggestions for improvements, limitations considered

Moderators Report Each task has a separate Candidate Record sheet  Teachers may only teach one of the tasks  The task can be marked when completed  Candidates may retake module, which may involve improving only one task
