1 Welcome to Cora Howe School Annual Title 1 Meeting September 14, 2010 Title 1 Program LuAnn Seale – Principal K. C. Winfrey – ESEA Facilitator

2 A.Y.P. Status of Cora Howe  2009-2010: Cora Howe School was in Good Standing according to the federal government and a Target School according to MNPS.  2010-2011: Cora Howe’s AYP status is still pending. However, until further notice, the status is the same as the 2009-2010 school year. NOTE: A Target School is still considered to be a school in Good Standing.

3 What is Title 1?  The largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high- quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments  A school receives Title I funds when more than 40% of its students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.

4 Our Title 1 Program  Our school is a Title 1 funded school. This means that we receive money from the Federal Government to support student success.  As a Title 1 school, there are two ways that these funds may be used: 1.) School Wide or 2.) Targeted Assistance School Wide Model: Funds may be used for ALL students, parents, and teachers. Targeted Assistance Model: Funds may be used only for a limited number of students, parents, and teachers.” LET’S VOTE

5 How Title 1 Funds are Used Based on Data Collection and Planning 1. Instruction and Programming: Personnel – ESEA Program Facilitator Materials and Supplies – classroom programs, media center books and materials, technology, etc. 2. Parent Involvement: Materials and Supplies for Parents Parent Activities Parent Training Parent Communication 3. Professional Development: Staff Development – conferences, materials, for trainings, travel, activities

6 Your Input Your input concerning the use of our Title 1 funding is important and we have listened to parent suggestions in the development of our Spending Plan. Your suggestions, recommendations, and feedback are always encouraged. Please contact us with your ideas!!!

10 Parent/School Compact The Parent-School Compact is an agreement of promise that has been developed jointly with parents, community stakeholders, and with the and students to provide a learning environment in which all children can develop to their academic potential. The compact will be discussed at the Annual Meeting, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and any other time appropriate. Signed copies will be kept on file as a documented record of the agreement between the school and its families.

12 Highly Qualified Status The federal government requires that all faculty and staff in Title 1 schools be Highly Qualified Currently, all faculty and staff at Cora Howe are Highly Qualified

13 Curriculum and Standards TENNESSEE STATE STANDARDS New state standards can be viewed at: http://www.state.tn.us/education/curriculum.shtml Hard copies of the new state standards are also available for viewing at Cora Howe School

14 Opportunities to Volunteer Revise parent policy and/or compact for new school culture 10- 11 School Improvement Plan – assisting with the operating plan for the entire school Decisions and planning on how to use Title I parent involvement funds and other funds School Improvement Plan – assisting with the operating plan for the entire school PTO and other parent groups Cluster Parent Meetings – MNPS Parent Advisory Council In the school, in classrooms, or on fieldtrips
