Parts of the Microscope ArmCourse Adj Knob BaseFine Adjustment Ocular lensDiaphragm NosepieceStage Body TubeStage Clips Low power objHigh power obj

Always carry with 2 hands Only use lens paper for cleaning Do not force knobs Keep objects clear of desk and cords

Place the Slide on the Microscope Stage Use Stage Clips Click Nosepiece to the lowest (shortest) setting (scanning) Look into the Eyepiece Use the Coarse Focus

Follow the same steps to focus using low power Click the nosepiece to the longest objective Do NOT use the Coarse Focusing Knob Use the Fine Focus Knob to focus your image

The correct steps to viewing an image. Low power->Coarse Adj->Fine Adj->High Power-> Fine Adj. These are the proper steps to viewing a specimen. YOU NEVER TOUCH THE COARSE KNOB ON HIGH POWER

Total Magnification To find total magnification of a specimen you must multiply the Eyepiece by the objective Ex: Eyepiece x Objective 20x X 40x = 800x

Viewing Images Images appear upside down and backwards under the microscope. If you want to move this ameba UP which direction do you move the microscope slide? YOU MOVE IT DOWN! If you want to move it to the RIGHT? YOU MOVE IT LEFT!

Preparing A Wet Mount Get a glass slide, place specimen in the center. Take a dropper of water or stain and place it on the specimen Take your coverslip, place it on a 45 degree angle and slowly lower it, to avoid air bubbles.
