The Rejected Savior Isaiah 53: 1-8

Legendary Comic Book Heroes often save the World from Impending Doom. They Reflect our Need of a Savior.

But there is a problem! These “Saviors” are often Despised and Rejected.

Comic Book Heroes reflect “the Rejected Savior.”

BECAUSE JESUS WAS REJECTED. Because Jesus was not wanted, he was driven to a life of silence, solitude, and simplicity. --CHARLES R. SWINDOLL BECAUSE JESUS WAS REJECTED. Because Jesus was not wanted, he was driven to a life of silence, solitude, and simplicity. --CHARLES R. SWINDOLL

“UGLY” OUTSIDE, BUT BEAUTIFUL WITHIN All his glory and beauty come from within, and there he delights to dwell, his visits there are frequent, his conversations sweet, his comforts refreshing, and his peace passing all understanding. --THOMAS À KEMPIS (C. 1380–1471) “UGLY” OUTSIDE, BUT BEAUTIFUL WITHIN All his glory and beauty come from within, and there he delights to dwell, his visits there are frequent, his conversations sweet, his comforts refreshing, and his peace passing all understanding. --THOMAS À KEMPIS (C. 1380–1471)

THE AMAZING “REJECTED” JESUS Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and myself founded empires; but upon what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ alone founded his empire upon love, and at this hour millions of men would die for him. --NAPOLEON BONAPARTE (1769–1821)

TAKE HOME Jesus took it on the chin, and everywhere else --for me! Jesus doesn’t want my sympathy …he wants my love. Jesus requires that I admit who ‘we’ are. I’m sinner. He’s my savior.

THE REJECTED SAVIOR Isaiah 53:1-8 (The New Living Translation) Who has believed our message? To whom will the Lord reveal his saving power? [2] My servant grew up in the Lord's presence like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. [3] He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care. [4] Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins!

THE REJECTED SAVIOR Isaiah 53:1-8 (The New Living Translation) cont… [5] But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! [6] All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the guilt and sins of us all. [7] He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. [8] From prison and trial they led him away to his death. But who among the people realized that he was dying for their sins—that he was suffering their punishment?

JESUS…AN ORDINARY GUY Vs. 1,2 Grew up like a weed No super model, this Jesus His exterior… nondescript

JESUS --LESS THAN YOUR AVERAGE MAN Vs. 3,4 A reject Mr. Problem. A loser for sure.

HE DID IT ALL WITHOUT COMPLAINT …IT WAS HIS WAY OF SAYING: “I LOVE YOU!” All of the meanness he endured was to give us peace with God. Go ahead… look at each one. Despised - Rejected Smitten by others and Stricken by God Punished and Afflicted Oppressed, Crushed and Wounded Cut off and Slaughtered Buried with the wicked

HIS PUNISHMENT BROUGHT US PEACE V. 5 Christianity is all about God’s desire to have a relationship with us …and the great expense Jesus paid to make it happen. Let’s not misunderstand him as he was understood when he arrived on the planet. We must remember that we are all sinners in need of the Savior. Say it loudly and clearly: I am a sinner…I need Jesus…I deserve what he endured …I’ll follow him as his disciple

Do You Love the Reject Savior?

WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS? A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn’t be a great moral teacher. He’d be either a lunatic —on a level with a man who says he’s a poached egg—or else he’d be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. --C. S. LEWIS

TAKE HOME Jesus took it on the chin, and everywhere else --for me! Jesus doesn’t want my sympathy …he wants my love. Jesus requires that I admit who ‘we’ are. I’m sinner. He’s my savior.
