1 We the People: The Citizen and THE Constitution 2014 District and State Finals Competitions Brunswick High school Gifted/honor students Mrs. R. Hawkins-Wesson, Coach/District coordinator

2 Overview of Program We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is the most extensive program in the country to educate young people about the history and principles of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The curriculum was developed by the Center for Civic Education at James Madison’s Montpelier. The program was designed to commemorate the framing and adoption of the Constitution and to revitalize educational programs on the Constitution and civic education in our nation’s schools.

3 We the People State Coordinator Emily Voss, State Coordinator has been inspirational to the continued development and growth of the We the People Curriculum in our school system. She is elated by the overwhelming support by our division administration, parents and community.

4 History of BCPS and the WE the People Program Under the leadership of Mrs. R. Hawkins-Wesson the WTP Program has flourished. 2010 Middle State Finals Champions 2012 District Champions and Honorable Mention Recognition during the 2012 State Finals. 2013 2 nd Place District Finalist and 4 th Place during the 2013 State Finals. 2014- District and Regional Champions and 4 th Place during the 2014 State Finals
