4 Lynn experienced discrimination over her gender when applying for positions in hospitals, she realised the need for a new hospital from her work with the poor in inner city Dublin and with a group of female activists formed Saint Ultans hospital for infants, the first Irish hospital fully managed by women in 1919. The hospital grew explicitly and became the centre for tuberculosis vaccines from 1937. It closed in 1984.
