1 AS TAG Leaders Meeting Webex - Friday 18.06 S. Guiducci, M. Palmer

2 AS TAG Leaders Meeting Friday 18.06 TDP-2 planning (R&D Plan Update) Homework (Nick’s points): 1. Critical R&D goals - Current ongoing programmes - goals, milestones etc. - Important to identify R&D that will go beyond end 2012 (post TDR); this includes identified R&D that is not currently not funded. 2. ADI (assume SB2009-like baseline) - Status of design and design documentation - state of lattice files, component definitions (lists) etc. - scope of possible new cost estimation (RDR update), see comments below) 3. R&D Plan Appendix B - Review and consolidation of Work Package descriptions (resources!), bringing them into line with TDR plans.

3 Critical R&D goals 1.E-cloud mitigation ( CesrTA program and ECLOUD WG) End 2010 (ready for BAW2 meeting 18-21 Jan 2011) –Recommendations on e-cloud mitigations for 6 ns bunch spacing –Comparison between 6 ns and 3 ns bunch distance in 3 km DR Mid 2011 –Detailed report of e-cloud working group –CesrTA Phase I EC report 2011-2012 CesrTA Phase II –Electron cloud R&D and Incorporation into DR design (continuing up to end of 2013) 2013 CesrTA Phase II –Extended program to take advantage of the effort done and get further incremental info to refine the plan

4 Critical R&D goals 2.Demonstration of 2 pm vertical emittance A vertical emittance of ~ 2 pm has been achieved in synchrotron light sources (Diamond, ASP, SLS) The ATF low emittance goal could be remodulated, a proposal for the next ATF/ATF2 Collaboration Meeting It is considered important to demonstrate the 2 pm in the extraction line (not only in the storage ring) The deadline could be moved to the end of 2012

5 Critical R&D goals 1.Fast kickers Already demonstrated –Rise/fall time for 3 ns bunch spacing (KEK) –Kick angle stability in single bunch extraction (KEK) –Very clean pulse shape, no post-pulse for SLAC pulse modulator) Next steps –Kick angle stability in multi bunch extraction at 3 MHz (KEK) (March 2011) –Complete and test a SLAC pulse modulator prototype (2011) –Evaluate kickers impedance contribution (LNF) (mid 2011)

6 ADI 1.Status of design and design documentation for 3.2 km DR Present DSB3 lattice –Used for e-cloud evaluations (still needs dynamic aperture optimization) –MAD file on Cornell wiki site –Element file sent to Norbert Collomb for layout drawing –Magnets file to Peter Garbincius for cost estimate Work on the lattice –In progress at LNF and IHEP (IPAC10 papers) –A lattice choice is expected before the end of 2010. Status of design and design documentation for 6.4 km DR –4 papers presented at IPAC10 (CI) –Detailed notes are in preparation –3D drawings given to CFS

7 R&D Plan Appendix B DR Organization Test Facilities –ATF test facility (Nobuhiro Teranuma) –CesrTA test facility (Mark Palmer) Working groups –ECLOUD Working Group (Mauro Pivi) –ILC-CLIC Working Group (Mark Palmer, Yannis Papaphilippou) For the other activities it has been suggested to have: – a Table with a list of the labs involved and the activities for each lab – a contact person for each lab
