HOME IS WHERE YOU FEEL SAFE Thinking Italian

What are your plans for the future concerning your personal lives, career? Giulia: teacher Anna: psychiatrist Virginia: diplomatic Melissa: surgeon Sara: designer Alessandro: army surgeon Marta: aerospace engineer Marta: musician (harpist)

What is the attitude of young people in your country to their future? Generally pessimistic because of crisis, high unemployment rate: the Italian system is generally not moved by merytocracy. This is why more and more young people decide to find a job abroad.

What are you looking forward to? What are you worried about? We are looking for stability and possibility of affirmation. We can reach our self-knowledge, problem solving adaptability, flexibility tolerance, intercultural vision, attitude to multilingual communication in order to become the Project Manager and enrich our curriculum or to achieve a more stable work placement. We are worried about the difficulties that we can meet in our path as language: if we aren’t in an Anglosaxon country, we have to speak the local language in order to integrate us better. The “culture shock” can be also a problem if we have our mental schedule. Most important is the fear of being 'not enough' to face new realities and a new 'world':real barriers to overcome are not geographical borders but our inner limits.

Where would they like to live (city, town, in the country)? We are used to living in little towns in which the community is stronger and closer. We've never tried to live in metropolis, however we are attracted by this perspective. Lots of people think that living in a big city means living better, according to us, before being sure about this view we have to try.

What about young people’s job prospects in your country? We discussed about the aim of young people to move abroad in order to live better. There is another part of young people that thinks that we can stay in Italy because starting something in your city where you were born, where you have a network of contacts, theoretically, is easier than starting in a foreign country. And especially because they don't want to trust the usual song: " In Italy it's impossible, go abroad ", they want to experience firsthand, without excuse and without " believing " passively to what you hear around. They believe that if there is a commitment, and it is competent, the results will come. And then we rolled up our sleeves and without much thought we founded Let's Make.

Are you prepared to be mobile/ go abroad for our job? Why (not)? Yes we are basically prepared to go abroad but we have to overcome our fears as language, new systems, new points of view, new difficulties, far from family and friends.. Could you image studying abroad? Why (not)? We can imagine it but we are also afraid about culture-shock, languages, fear of being not enough, meeting new type of problems..

Do you want to start a family/ have children? If yes, how many? We are too young to start planning a future family, however everybody needs somebody to lean on. People with their love help you to overcome difficulties. For some of us family doesn’t mean having children, but the majority is willing more than a baby.

Will today’s global problems have an impact on your lives? If yes, to what extent? Yes. Nowadays, here we have the huge problem of immigration, that makes everybody live in the same situation that is going to decline if we don't find an equal way to distribute the high amount of people who are arriving. They need respect and home but Italy needs help from UE. Moreover, a big problem is the crisis that is involving the poorest and richest countries putting population in alert and difficult situations.
