2 LPPD University of Illinois Chicago, LPPP. Summer 2008 Project Summary Neurological therapeutics have limited success due to natural barriers such as the blood brain barrier. Methods to circumvent or penetrate the blood brain barrier include: Receptor- Mediated TransportMolecular Trojan Horses IntranasalOsmotic Disruption Convection-Enhanced DeliveryMacrophage Transport Over 7 million Americans suffer from neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Brain Cancer, and Stroke. These conditions have direct and indirect costs of over $200 billion dollars annually in the United States. Magnetically – guided nanoparticles could offer targeted detection, diagnosis and treatment options for these neurological conditions. University of Illinois Chicago, LPPD, Summer 2011

Determine the most effective protocol for administrating and measuring magnetically-guided nanoparticles in rat brain samples.
