10-1: Circles and Circumference

Definitions: circle-a locus (group) of points that are equidistant from a given point. center-the given point chord-a segment with endpoints on the circle. diameter-a chord that passes through the center. radius-a segment whose endpoints are the center and a point on the circle.

Label the circle A E C B F D

Diameters of circle K, circle M, and circle O are 14, 20, and 10 inches respectively. 1.Find LM. 1.Find LN

How does an odometer work? Diameter of a LIFE SAVER = __________ How far does the LIFE SAVER travel in one rotation? *This is the circumference. C=πd If the LIFE SAVER rotates 150 times, how far did it travel? How many rotations would it take for the LIFE SAVER to go 100ft?

Diameter of your tire=_________ Odometer reading = __________ Distance tire travels in one rotation = _____ If the tire turns 1000 times, how far did you go? In 10 miles, how many times did your tires turn? How many times did your tires rotate in your car’s lifetime.

Seth is in a high speed chase that lasts for 20 min. Seth’s average speed during the pursuit is 85mph. 1.How far did Seth travel? 2.If the diameter of Seth’s tire is 40in, how many times did his tires rotate?

EX: Find the exact circumference of circle P.

Assignment p. 526; 16-20, 33-55odd
