2  Born June 12 th,1924, in Milton Massachusetts.  His nickname when he was a young whippersnapper was “Poppy.”  He inherited this nickname from his grandfather.  His parents were Dorothy Walker Bush, and Prescott Sheldon Bush.

3  He married to Barbara Pierce on January 6 th, 1945  They had six children George Walker Bush, Robin Bush, John Ellis “Jeb” Bush, Neil Bush, Marvin Bush, and Dorothy Bush.  He graduated from Yale University in 1948.

4  Bush’s political party was Republican  In 1988 Bush won the Republican nomination for president with J. Danforth Quayle as his running mate.  Bush won the election against Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis.  He lost his bid for reelection in 1992 against Democrat William Clinton.

5  When Iraqi president Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait the threated Saudi Arabia, Bush rallied the United Nations, and the United States sending troops into Kuwait.  After weeks of aerial attacks and bombardments the 100 hour land battle, Desert Storm ended triumphant.

6  When Bush left presidency he and his wife returned to Houston, Texas  Bush joined former President Bill Clinton in an effort to help after a tsunami from the Indian Ocean and struck Southeast Asia in the December of 2004.  The two formed the Bush- Clinton Houston Tsunami fund.

7  Bush was again involved in politics through his sons Jeb Bush and George W. Bush.  George W. Bush was governor of Texas from 1995- 2000 and Jeb Bush was governor of Florida from 1999- 2007.  When George W. Bush was elected in 2000 the Bushes became the first father and son to become presidents since the Adams.  George H. W. Bush is referred as “Forty- One” and George W. Bush is referred as “ Forty- Three.”
