How To: Replace an LTR- 450R Suzuki Fuel Filter By Goigen (#11)

Step 1  Remove the seat  Take off the tank shroud and left side (sitting on the quad) radiator shroud to gain access to the fuel tap

Step 2  Remove the rubber cap and close the fuel tap off by using a medium flat screw driver, turning in a clockwise direction (its brass so be careful)

Step 3  Remove the clamp from the hose connected to the fuel pump. Block it off with any smooth (smooth so it doesn’t damage the hose) suitable device to avoid spilling fuel left in the hose. Careful not to get any fuel in your eyes (it burns, trust me…) (it burns, trust me…)

Step 4  Remove the two bolts (10mm) securing the tank

Step 5  Remove the two hoses located on the top left of the tank secured by spring clamps

Step 6  Time to tackle those dreaded high pressure fuel hoses!! Oh no! what am I to do?! Oh no! what am I to do?!

Step 7  Grab that little sucker on the grey movable plastic with a long nose pliers and squeeze. Pull apart once full depressed (the pliers, not you) keeping the connection straight until completely off NB: Careful of the wires! Very easy to slip and nick the insulation!

Step 8  Once you done the first one, the 2 nd will be easy, disconnect and it should look something like this

Step 9  Lift the tank up to expose the fuel filter/fuel tap assembly in the front left corner under the tank. Remove from quad sliding out the hose from the fuel pump carefully through

Step 9 (cont’d)  Should look something like this now

Step 10  Lie the tank down gently on its side to reach the fuel filter assembly. Clean around the assembly to prevent dirt/etc from entering

Step 11  Slide the rubber housing off the assembly but be careful not to let it slip off the end of the hose, it can be a mission to figure out how to put it back on so it fits…

Step 12  Using a Phillips/star screwdriver, loosen all 6(six) screws holding the fuel bowl

Step 13  Remove the old dirty filter without using force (its plastic) by turning clockwise and pulling apart and voila! Hopefully yours isn’t as bad as mine…

Step 14  Install the new filter, keeping clear of any dirt/etc.  Watch not to bend that plastic clip in the back

Step 15  Clean the fuel bowl out, removing any dirt or rust and secure onto fuel assembly using those 6(six) screws you took off just now but kicked under the workbench DOH!!!

Step 16   Replace tank and fit high pressue hose connections (as easy as pushing them on till you hear them ‘click’) Put the rest of the stuff back and you’re back in business!

In closing  Check your filter regularly  Replace with a new filter if possible  Some people use a plastic in-line fuel filter that you can visually check to see if it needs replacing (not too sure on how that gets connected though)  Send any feedback/comments/suggestions/ gifts/donations/ to jryger@gmail.com jryger@gmail.com See you at the track in the dirt! Cheers Goigen #11
