1 CD Briefing on Scientific Program Management System (SPMS) and DocDB Thursday, November 18, 2004 Eric Vaandering will speak about DocDB, in particular about the meeting management functions. Matt Arena will speak about the SPMS conferencing system developed by the Joint Accelerator Web Site (JACOW). We’ve invited Cynthia Sazama of the lab’s conference office to participate in the discussions. Anne Heavey CD Program Support

2 Needs Program Support Group has increasing need to support and help with workshops and meetings for a broad, diverse set of people. e.g. LambdaStation, SciDAC, OSG…. Want to deliver efficient, quality service for registration, agendas, posting of talks, archiving of information etc.

3 Example use case - OSG I’m doing web site for Open Science Grid, and frequently need to set up meeting pages with a registration form. CD Program Support group is starting to create more websites for meetings/workshops/conferences. For meeting registration, OSG currently uses an html form which calls a cgi perl script which updates a (hidden for security) registrants page and sends email. We manually update the viewable registrants page from the automatically updated one. We do not implement credit card payment for meeting fees. (Example at http://www.opensciencegrid.org/events/meetings/support/indianapolis1204/ ) http://www.opensciencegrid.org/events/meetings/support/indianapolis1204/ The meetings have associated presentations and follow-up documents that we post in the OSG DocDB document database. The OSG meeting web pages and the associated documents are maintained separately and independently (two workflows). I and others in my group frequently set up “repeating meetings” in DocDB; the process is not straightforward and it is difficult to get the meeting chairs to post information about each meeting session in DocDB. 4 We’d like to see how best to provide quality and efficient service; streamline our procedures and workflows; We would like to see how best to provide seamless integration between meetings and main CD document repositories. In particular, we want to understand the registration and document database features. We are interested in finding out and/or contributing to the discussion of what system the lab will go with in the future so that we may move in the same direction.
