Mount Olive Middle School 6 th Grade Mathematics 2014-2015 Alan Williams EOG MATH TEST FINAL REVIEW

What’s the “TEST” look like? Geometry (12-17%) (8) Expressions And Equations (27-32%) (15) The Number System (27-32%) (16) Ratios/Proportional Relationships (12-17%) (10) Statistics And Probability (7-12%) (8)

Geometry Area and Perimeter of Regular and Irregular Figures –Squares, Rectangles, Triangles, Parallelograms, Trapezoids Volume of Prisms –Cube, Rectangular, Triangular Surface Area And Nets –Squares, Rectangles, Triangles Coordinate Plane Geometry –Squares, Rectangles, Triangles, Parallelograms, Trapezoids

Expressions And Equations Write And Evaluate Numerical Expressions Write And Evaluate Variable Expressions Distributive Property Solving Equations And Inequalities Graphing Equations And Inequalities Using Variables to Write Expressions Writing And Solving Equations Functions

The Number System Division of Fractions/Mixed Numbers –KEEP IT, CHANGE IT, FLIP IT Division of Multi-Digit Numbers Decimal Operations –Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division GCF and LCM –SAME DAY Problems Integer Operations –Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division Rational Numbers On The Number Line –Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, Negative Numbers

Ratios And Proportional Relationships Ratios And Ratio Language –Part to Part, Part to Whole, Rates Unit Rates Using Tables to Find Unit Rates –Best Deal Questions Percent Proportion –IS/OF = %/100 Measurement Conversions –3ft = 1yd

Statistics And Probability Statistical Questions –If you Google it and a numerical answer then it is not, if you get graphs or an analysis then it is Distribution of Data/Center of Data –Central Tendency (Mean, Median, Mode, Range) Displaying Data –Line Plots/Dot Plots –Bar Graphs and Histograms –Stem And Leaf Plots –Box Plots (Box And Whisker) Summarizing Data –Using graphs to interpret and determine data sets

How Many Questions Are On The Test? –Questions 1-7: Multiple Choice (Calculator Inactive) –Questions 8-18: Gridded Response (Calculator Inactive) –Questions 19-60: Multiple Choice (Calculator Active) What Resources Can I Use On The Test? –Pencils –Test Booklet –Answer Sheet –Blank White Paper –Blank Graph Paper How Long Do I Have To Complete The Test? –(2) 60 Minute Sessions followed by (2) 3 minute breaks between –(1) 45 Minute Session –Additional 45 Minute Sessions as needed up to 4 hours total time What’s the “TEST” look like?

During The Test Read the question and all the answer choices before doing any work Do not spend TOO much time on question – Do your best and move on if you get stuck (return later) Answer the easiest questions first but make sure if you skip around that you return to ones you skipped Eliminate answers when you can DO NOT make blind guesses – skip and come back later

During The Test When you finish make sure to go back and check that you answered and bubbled all questions and that you did it correctly Look for key words or phrases in each question Use the scratch paper and graph paper – that’s what it’s for! If your answer does not match any of the possible answers first check your computation and then go back over the question and ask yourself where you might have gone wrong

Things To Remember Read each problem carefully – Ask yourself what concept/topic the question relates to Underline important information and eliminate extraneous information – it is intended to confuse you Show all your work and eliminate answers that do not make sense

The Night Before Testing “Twas the night before testing…” Have a good dinner Go to bed on time Make sure you have all school materials and clothes ready for the morning so you will not be rushed when you wake up in the morning

The Night Before Testing If you have an alarm make sure it is set so you will wake up on time Before going to bed look over any study guides or test questions and look over any material that you might forget on test day

The Morning of the Test Start your day as you normally do Eat a good breakfast Think about what you will do after school when you get home to relax DO NOT frantically look over material that you think will be on the test THINK POSITIVE AND RELAX!

Understand the Problem Make A Plan Carry Out The Plan Look Back Problem Solving Strategies

Test Anxiety This is a NORMAL feeling A normal level of anxiety can actually help you focus to perform better Too much anxiety can cause you to not be able to focus and ultimately hurt your performance Remember, the best resource to beat test anxiety is preparedness

Final Test Preparation Formulas –Area (Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Parallelogram, Trapezoid) –Volume (Cube, Rectangular/Triangular Prism Gridded Response –No Signs, No Mixed Numbers, NO SPACES Released Test Questions
