What are earthquakes? An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic wave.

Where do they occur most often? Why? Where do they occur most often? Why? The most recent earthquakes occur in Alaska. The center is in a molten state, under tremendous temperature and pressure. Moving outwardly, each layer becomes cooler and more firm until the crustal layer is reached. Although solid in texture, the crust is fractured into unknown numbers of cracks, faults and fissures throughout the world. A fault is considered active if slow creep or periodic movement occurs. This constant movement is the result of energy forces swirling deep within the earth.

How likely is it Anderson, Indiana will experience an earthquake? How likely is it Anderson, Indiana will experience an earthquake? Although earthquakes are not a regular occurrence in our area it is believed a strong earthquake could soon hit our region

What are the effects on people’s Lives What are the effects on people’s Lives A major earthquake under a heavily populated area in the U.S. could result in thousands of deaths. Several effects of earthquakes could result in extensive damages. Ground shaking can collapse buildings. Earthquakes may raise or lower large areas of Earth's surface. Landslides are a potential hazard on steep slopes in seismic zones.

This includes: 1 ) The actions you should take when an earthquake occurs. 2) The safe places in a room such as under a strong desk and along inside walls. 3) Places to avoid such as near windows, large mirrors, hanging objects, heavy furniture and fireplaces.
