3. What is Reconciliation? Reconciliation is the sacrament of Penance. The word when translated means coming back together. Reconciliation involves the restoring of relationships that have been wounded/broken.

5. Why do people reconcile? 1. The reason they go to reconciliation is that they have sin. 2. In doing so the can receive the forgiveness of God. 3.We must accept that we have caused pain to ourselves and to others.

7. The different forms of sin. Personal sin- Actions that alienate us from ourselves, others, and from God. Mortal sin- It is a really grave violation of God’s law done knowingly and freely. Venial sin- A less serious offense that weakens our relationship with God and with others but does not cut it off.

9. Confession Confession is part of the sacrament of Reconciliation. It involves the person to face his/her sins and accept them. Then they would need to do a deed that would help erase their sins.

11. Three Forms of the Rite 1. A celebration for an individual penitent. 2. A communal celebration for several penitents with individual confession and absolutions. 3. A communal celebration for several penitents with general confessions and absolutions.

13. Turning Around God has unconditional love even for those who wander away. We must acknowledge our mistakes, and make a turnaround. Penance involves prayer, deeds of kindness or sacrifices

15. The Ripple Effects of Our Actions Whenever we harm ourselves we damage our own ability to love and to care for others.

17. Reconciliation History In the earliest years of the church, the healing process for minor sins took place informally within the community. Big Sins When members clearly renounced the faith or practice of the church, they were excommunicated- no longer allowed to share the Eucharist with the assembly.

19. Private Confession: Reconciliation with a personal touch The Irish monks as confessors dedicated to spiritual perfection would regularly confess their faults to each other. The official form of confession was in public groups but the unofficial form was penance in private which more people proffered which then became the official form of reconciliation.

21. Conclusion Over the centuries Reconciliation has evolved into the form it is today. Many people would say what is the point of Reconciliation but they do not know how important it really is. As Catholics Reconciliation is important in the process of being a better catholic.
