4. What is a Corporate Parent? BWDBC looks after a number of children who are unable to remain in the care of their parents and families. When a child comes into the care of the Local Authority, the parental responsibility falls onto all elected members and officers of this Council. This is known as acting as a Corporate Parent. A Corporate Parent has the same role as any other parent in that there is a responsibility to ensure that a looked after child is supported and encouraged to achieve their potential and have a healthy, balanced, full and active life.
