VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 1p Discussion Items for the 4 th VIAQ Meeting Transmitted by the Chair and Secretary of VIAQ Beijing, March 30th – 31st 2016 Chair: Jongsoon LIM, The Republic of Korea Informal document VIAQ-04-xx

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 2p Agenda Item 4. Working Items List 1.Vehicle categories 2.Vehicle age (production date, mileage definition) 3.Transport & Storage 4.Ambient mode (Soak Temperature / Soak Time etc.) 5.Parking mode 6.Driving mode 7.Any other items 4 th VIAQ IWG Meeting

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 3p 2 nd VIAQ IWG Meeting  VIAQ Test Measurement: 28 ± 5 Days After Production date Day: 0 Transportation 1 ~ x Days Storage SiteTest Chamber Plant, PDI, Motor Pool X ~ Y DaysY ~ 26 Days Day 0 : Production date, Day 0 ~ X : After production, cars are usually parked in the manufacturing plant. Day X ~ Y : Transport from the plant to the laboratory Day Y ~ 26 : Keep test cars at the building Day 26 : All protective covers, foils, papers etc. should be removed before test start Day 27 : Test start, start ambient mode through overnight soak time. Day 28 : Test finished, finish ambient, parking and driving modes. Day: XDay: YDay: 26Day: 28Day: 27

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 4p  Test Procedure Parameters Vehicle categories: Background: Category M1, Category 1-1 vehicle Discussion: (Korea) request to add "N1“ Definition of new vehicle, Background: New car (Accepted), Used cars, prototypes, test cars are not included Discussion: less than 50 km(ISO), 70 km(Germany), 80km(WLTP COP) Age of vehicle at measurement: 28d ± 5d (Accepted), VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 5p  Test Procedure Parameters Day 0: Production date definition (Korea) sign off date from the production line. This is the date on which final tests are finished, and the manufacturing certificate is issued by Motor Vehicle Management ACT (China) rolling off the production line (OICA) leave the facility/plant and hand over the sales department Day 0 ~ X: After production, cars are usually parked at the plant. (Discussion) Most cars are parked outside in the motor pool. Should we include the vehicle storage conditions at the manufacturing plant in the test method? VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 6p  Test Procedure Parameters Day X ~ Y: Transportation conditions (Discussion) Test cars are transported to the laboratories. Should we include the vehicle transportation conditions in the test method? (OICA) Ref. document: VIAQ-03-11 All windows closed, all doors sealed, Use a protective cover when transport on a truck (lower deck) or a freight train (lower deck), for ship transport (lower deck container, not on the upper deck- open air) also use a protective cover, prevent water contact & ensure ventilation of storage area For airplane transport also use a protective cover, ensure that no emittive materials will be transported in the same cargo area Prevent direct sunlight during all transportations. Transportation to the storage place shall take place during the first 5 days after production. Document where the vehicle has been stored during the transport VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 7p  Test Procedure Parameters Day Y ~ 26: Storage conditions Interior emission rates increase gradually as temperature rises. The storage condition is one of the most important factors because it has an effect on the test results. (OICA) Ref. document: VIAQ-03-11 Place shall be nearby the test facility so that there is no driving necessary to get the vehicle from the storage place to the test facility Garage parking without direct sunlight (e.g. soaking room), prevent exhaust emission in the area In exceptional cases also the storage in the shadow outside is allowed (Solar load during the storage time shall not exceed…), Store under dealer conditions but with closed doors and windows VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 8p  Test Procedure Parameters Day 26 : Interior Protective covers (Korea) Interior protective covers should stay in the vehicle and be taken off one day before the measurement (OICA) Wax, Cover, foil, paper, and sticker have to be removed a minimum 24h±1h before measure Day 26 ~ 27: Pre-conditioning (Korea) test vehicles should be kept as close possible to 25 ℃ to stabilize interior emission rates between removing protective covers and taking measurements. VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 9p  Day 28: Ambient mode Ventilation time (doors open): 30 min Soak time: Stabilization is reached after approx 10 h. To facilitate the test procedure, it is recommended to have a 14h ± 2h soak time or 16 h. (OICA, SAE) 14h ± 2h, (Korea, China) 16h Temperature for ambient mode: 25°C or 23°C. Humidity for ambient mode: 50% ± 10% (relative humidity) (Korea, China) 25 ℃, (OICA,EC) 23 ℃ VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 10p  Day 28: Parking mode Test parameters: temperature, radiator conditions, test time, etc.  Day 28: Driving mode Test parameters: temperature, test time, HVAC conditions, etc.  Repeated measurements for vehicles Does it need to repeat the test measurements? VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues

VIAQ IWG Vehicle Interior Air Quality Informal Working Group 11p  Sampling Measurement point for temperature and humidity: one at driver seat (nose position) and one outside vehicle (1m from vehicle) Sampling point: Driver seat (nose position) Sampling parameters: The number of cartridges, sample flow & time, etc.  Analytics Aldehydes according to ISO 16000-3 and VOCs according to ISO 16000-6  Report Leak check results Void criteria Data format VIAQ Progress Report Work Items – open issues
