Exchange Server and Hosted Exchange integration

Virtual instance running Other server roles to support your workloads -Can be used for Exchange Server, SharePoint, WSUS, SQL Server, Remote Desktop Services, etc. Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard includes the Windows Server Essentials Experience role Virtual instance running Windows Server Essentials Experience -Remote Web Access -Client computer backup -Email integration -Dashboard, etc. Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard running Hyper-V provides up to two virtual instances with a single license Deploying an Exchange Server Exchange Server must run on a second server (physical or virtual) http://blogs.technet.com/b/ sbs/archive/2012/07/27/35 11083.aspx Windows Server Essentials communicates directly with Exchange Server

Unified identity management User Accounts & Mailboxes ‐ You can create user accounts together with their associated mailboxes ‐ Exchange Server integrates with Active Directory ‐ Manage the user’s mailbox quota Manage a user’s mailbox from the Dashboard throughout its lifecycle ‐ When deleting a user account, remove mailbox contents immediately or according to Exchange Server retention policy

Hosted Exchange integration Windows Server Essentials Experience provides a Hosted Email add-in framework Designed to help hosted email providers to develop an add-in that can integrate their hosted email services into Essentials Greatly simplifies the development of a custom add-in Provides a set of built-in standard UI extensions for integrated management Also provides flexibility for hosters to create their own integration experiences Provides a built-in provider that implements the business logic For example, one of the services offered is a password sync service Defines a standard adaptor interface where hosters can provide the logic to connect the built-in provider with their own hosting services

Hosted Exchange add-in architecture The framework consists of 3 layers: ‐ User interface (UI) ‐ Business logic ‐ Data operations The UI layer provides a generic, customizable experience for hosted email integration The business logic layer implements key logic that the UI layer needs At the data operation layer, a custom add-in must provide two components: ‐ An adaptor that implements the key data communication logic ‐ An add-in configuration file

Add-Ins

Add-ins ‐ Functionality that extends the product to add end user features, administrative features, or both ‐ Support for OEM pre-installation during factory imaging ‐ Can be cloud-based or on-premises apps Add-in Manager ‐ A centralized location to manage add-ins ‐ Includes add-in deployment infrastructure

Add-in advantages & how to find them Provides standard way for ISV’s to develop to the platform Integrates a single install and management approach Inline with simplified management pillar and self servicing Allows centralized management of on-premises and cross-premise solutions Add value for OEMs to pre-install services Discover popular add-ins via Microsoft Pinpoint

Add-In Manager Install/Uninstall from the server or a client computer ‐ For add-ins with client-side components, you can choose to install those immediately or do so later Add-In Manager provides entry points into: ‐ Subscription renewal, if applicable ‐ Installing updates ‐ Add-in support web sites

Extensibility areas Rich Software Development Kit (SDK) Add-ins can extend one or more areas: ‐ Dashboard ‐ Launchpad ‐ RWA ‐ Health Alerts Add-ins can manage: ‐ Storage ‐ Computers ‐ Users Additional feature level APIs Provider Framework Windows Server base DashboardLaunchpad Remote Web Access Health Alerts Learn more about the Windows Server Essentials SDK http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg513988.aspx
