Welcome to Hybrid Statistics! - Course Resources: - This course is located on Canvas and MyLab. - Canvas contains resources for study (see Modules – Chapter Learning Materials), Assignments, Discussion functions, and our course Gradebook. - Mylab is located via the MyLab and Mastering tab within Canvas. Use this link initially to register. After registration you can continue to use the tab or access MyLab through: http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/ - You can find additional videos, online Homework, and the online textbook, in addition to pre-and post tests for every chapter and additional resources. Slide 1- 2

- How the class works - BEFORE class: - Go to the Modules on Canvas, read the Chapter Lesson Materials and complete the indicated learning activities including watching suggested videos, reading the textbook chapter and/or powerpoints, viewing the suggested handouts, and reading/watching any technology instructions.. - Start the online (MyLab) homework and hand-in (Canvas) chapter assignment - Write down questions to ask in recitation - DURING class: - Ask questions! Participate in group work or class discussion/practice problems - AFTER class: - Finish assignments and study. Check Canvas regularly for announcements, messages, and discussion board updates.

Tips for success Do all assignments on time – late assignments will only be accepted in cases of documented emergency I will take assignments by email (in a word document)/Canvas email, but prefer paper copies Come to class every week! Students who came to class consistently scored (on average) 1 to 2 letter grades higher than those who did not. This is because class time is essential to grasping the material for most students. Get help early and often Individual tutors can be requested from the Learning Center. Additionally, drop in help is available at the Mathematics Center (HR 230) (see schedule for when a STAT tutor is available) Contact me or post your questions to the Unit Q&A Discussion Pay attention to the objectives (listed in each Chapter Lesson Materials page) – this is what you will be tested on. MyLab online homework will cover additional material, but your focus should be on the objectives. Slide 1- 4

Hybrid courses require Computer Literacy Comfort with independent learning Class time will not be spent lecturing on course material Significant time commitment outside of class If you are not spending a minimum of 8-10 hours a week on class material, you are not putting enough time into this course. 4+ hours for watching videos, reading textbook/powerpoints, and reviewing handouts 2 hours for trying practice problems 1-2 hours for online homework (Course Compass) 1-3 hours for hand-in homework and projects It is not too late to switch to a traditional class if you do not know if you can make this commitment Slide 1- 5

How to reach me Use Canvas messaging or email. For statistical questions I’d prefer for you to post to the Q&A page for each Unit so that the whole class can benefit from the discussion. I will endeavor to respond to emails/messages within 24- 48 hours. See syllabus for contact information (email/phone) and office hours
