1 Nouns and Pronouns L5.1 Lesson 9 Fifth Grade

2 When Do I Teach What? There are two main ways to incorporate the mini-lessons: – Teach the 30 lessons (PowerPoints) in sequence. – Use the formative assessments at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. These are included. The first one may used to identify who needs help with specific skills. The second one may be used to progress monitor, and the third one may be used to evaluate student progress at the end of year.

4 Lesson 9 Possessive Pronouns

5 Day 1 – Introduction Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. Possessive pronouns show possession, or ownership.

6 Day 1 – Introduction my your his her its our their 1.Raoul visited the Arizona desert. Raoul’s parents and sister went, too. 2.Raoul’s sister, Lara, loves the desert. Lara’s favorite animal is the bobcat. 3.She thinks the bobcat is beautiful. The bobcat’s fur is soft and spotted. 4.The kids’ parents studied the desert. The kids’ parents are scientists. 5.They said, “Kids, let’s get ready for the parents’ and kids’ hike up the ridge.

7 Day 1-Introduction mine his hers ours yours theirs 1.Raoul puts on his backpack. The blue backpack is Raoul’s. 2.Lara puts on her backpack. The green backpack is Lara’s. 3.Lara puts on her red-striped hat. She says, “This cool hat is Lara’s.” 4.She hands Raoul a white baseball cap. Lara says, “This hat is Raoul’s.

8 Day 2 – Guided Practice Use before a noun: my your his her its our their Stands Alone: mine yours his hers ours theirs As they began the walk, Raoul’s mom said, “Raoul, would you carry ______ map?” Raoul led ______ family down the trail. They saw tall cactus plants on _______ walk. Dad explained that the height of a cactus is a hint about ______ age. He said to Raoul, “That tall plant on ______ right is about 100 years old.” The group saw lizards sitting in the sun. As the group observed a big brown lizard, the wind blew off Raoul’s hat. Another hiker caught it and asked Dad, “Is this ______?” Lara pointed to Raoul and said, “No. It’s ______.”
