Work Summary 8 th June to 21 st June Hywel Owen School of Physics and Astronomy University of Manchester
2
Mo-99 Production Hopefully you’ve all seen the seminar I gave last week! – http://agenda.hep.manchester.ac.uk/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1013 Starting to look at comparing the target yields for different methods – Have summer student doing some work on it – Using GEANT4 to do calculations (thanks to Cristian for help) – Looking initially at electron>gamma>photofission method, as it is likely to be the best one.
3
ORELA Photofission Production Target for RIB
4
GEANT4 model of converter (ongoing)
5
Bremsstrahlung Yield Comparisons (Ongoing) Berger and Seltzer, Phys Rev C 2, 621 (1970) yield from cube target
6
Comparison of gamma yield with different materials (incorrect geometry in this one) W at the top, Al at the bottom) Pierre Bricault, TRIUMF, similar convertor to ORELA
7
Problems and next steps Initial confusion about how GEANT works (apparently this is common) Thanks to Cristian for his patient help… Not getting much communication from ORNL or TRIUMF about their designs – might have to make a few guesses. Next steps – Finishing benchmarking bremss production in GEANT4 using ORELA target – Work out how to calculate photofission production using GEANT4
