Year Three- Spring 2 2015

Do shadows have feelings? Can your shadow get hurt? Why do shadows look like the object? Is a shadow the same as a reflection? How do shadows make you feel? How/ why are shadows made? Can your shadow be different colours? Does a shadow have to be on the floor? How far away can a shadow be? Why do shadows go away? Can you catch your shadow? Why are shadows attached to you?

We planned how we would carry out an investigation to answer this question. We decided that these things would be important... Stand in the same place each time Sunlight Work with a partner Record time of day Use the same partner to measure each time

We talked about the question and then in groups, we experimented using several torches and little figurines!  We decided that the footballers have four shadows because there are four flood lights shining on them.

We read the story ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ where the Mouse uses his shadow to scare a small Gruffalo! We then made our own puppets based on the characters from the story to experiment with how shadows can change.
