3 Why Strategic Planning? To produce a long-term, consensus-based plan that will serve as the blueprint for change and a framework for decision making for the future To create concrete, specific plans of action that will lead to the achievement of the mission and objectives included in the strategic plan

4 Components of A Strategic Plan Core Values Who are we and what do we believe in? Mission What is our purpose and who are we most concerned about serving? Internal & External Scan What are our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats? Strategic Objectives For what outcomes are we willing to be held accountable? Strategies What must we do to achieve our mission and our objectives? Strategic Delimiters What must we refrain from doing?

5 Strategic Planning Protocols What are Protocols? I will treat each person as a peer. I will communicate openly and honestly. I will reveal my interests but work toward the common good. I will present my points of view an my points of view only. I will contribute but will not dominate. I will work to make decisions by consensus. This will be achieved when each member of the group agrees: I believe that you understand my point of view; I believe I understand your point of view; I can and will live with this decision; and I will support this decision in public and private through implementation.
