9 Developing Relationships The goal is teacher leadership; one who can keep the “big picture” in mind, understand the needs of the students and translate that necessity into practice, one who has a revelation for where the program is going (Gadikowski, 2013). The desire is to use a holistic method to working with students and their families; using a family centered approach that fully articulates by locating the study of the student within the context of the family, community, and education program. The classroom becomes far more than simply a place where the student is during the day; it becomes the connection between the students, family, and community (Wardle, 2013). As a developmental appropriate practice the teacher will aim to aspirer children, inspirer families, and build up the community. The vision is meet the needs of the learners and their families. The teacher has create an environment that is fun, respectful, safe and conducive toward learning for all. “In essence, 21st-century skills place more emphasis on what students can do with their knowledge, rather than focusing exclusively on learning specific core content or facts”(Newman, 2013). Students learn through things that spark their interest and challenge their knowledge. Students learn how to enjoy learning and to apply the knowledge they learn.
