3 Navigating the Landing Page
The homepage is divided into three main parts: Account Management on the left, Textbook Resources in the middle, and Learning Management Center on the right. Textbook Resources The middle portion of the page is where your eBooks and all program resources are located. The link titled “Go to the Online Textbook” takes you directly to all of your resources organized by Chapter and Section. The links titled Supplemental Teacher and Student Materials are generic program-wide resources. The link titled ExamView® dowload is where you can access the ExamView® test banks for the program. Account Management The blue column on the left is all about managing the account. Teachers can add new books to the account, update registration information, and find contact information for technical support—in case questions arise about using the system. Learning Management Center The blue column on the right is where teachers can manage the online class. This column has links for adding individual students or adding new classes. They can also edit or delete a class or student record as needed. They can even view and print class rosters. Also found in the Learning Management Center is the Assignment Management section. From here teachers can enter our assessment system, from which they can create and administer tests to the students and classes they have created. Teachers can even run reports on student and class performance.

7 Setting Up a Class After you have created an account for yourself, you will need to set up one or more classes and place your students into them. How to Set Up a Class On the far right-hand side of the screen, after logging in, you will see a Learning Management Center. Click on the “Add a Class” button to create a new class. You will be asked to name your class, select the period and grade level, and to select a book for your class. After you have set up your classes, you can create student accounts and place them into your class.

8 Creating a Student Account
On the Learning Management Center, click on the “Add Students” button to create a student account. First, select which class you want to add students to using the drop down menu. This will load a new page. Then, tell the system how many students you would like to add. Fill in the boxes with the student name and Student ID, if available, and click the “Add” button. This will generate a list of unique student user names and passwords that you can then hand out to your class. Adding existing students to your Class If your district has already set up student accounts, you can simply click the “One Log In/Password” button on the “Add Students” screen. This will allow you to import existing students from your school into your classroom by selecting from a list of available students. From your student’s point of view, they will have only one log in, but your book will appear on their log in screen along with all of their other online books in the system.

9 Making an Assignment The “How to Use” link provides tutorials for the follow topics: About Holt Online Assessment Getting Started How Intervention Works About Assignments About the Calendar About Reports About Preferences The “Assignment” link takes you to a screen that contains a host of functionalities and resources, contained in tabs along the top of the screen. By clicking on the “Assignments” tab and selecting your class and book, you will see a list of resources like the screen on the left. You can choose to “View” or “Assign” any of these resources. If you click “View,” you will see a pop-up of the test. This view allows you to read the test prior to assigning it. When looking at the test as a teacher, you can see which answers are correct (marked by an arrow and listed beneath the question) as well as which standards the question is correlated to (in the shaded area below the question).  Holt Online Assessment allows teachers to assign online work and content to students via the Internet and view student performance via a variety of reports. Best of all, the system will automatically grade any question that is not open-ended. That means that questions like multiple choice are graded and stored for your review instantly, without any extra work on your part. Short answer and essay questions can be graded at your leisure and will be used to calculate the scores. When making an assignment, you can also set the parameters for your students’ experience. You can determine when the test is available to your class, how long the student has to take the test, how many times the student can take the test, which score is kept if they take the test more than once, and what students the test is assigned to (you can select the entire class or individual students).

10 Publishing a test to the server direct from ExamView
If you want to make your own test and use that in conjunction with your online book, you can do that to. By using the ExamView installation that came with your Teacher One Stop DVD, you will have the capability to send your custom built tests straight to our servers for use by your class. After you build your custom test, save it and then click on the “File” option in the tool bar. Scroll down to the “Publish To” option. This will bring up a side menu with several choices. Click on the “Holt Testing Server” link. You will be asked for your my.hrw.com user name and password. Enter these in the boxes and your test will be sent to the online site. Next time you log in, you will be able to associate your tests with your class and assign them directly to your students. Uploaded tests can be found by selecting the “Teacher Uploaded Tests” option in the Category dropdown on the Assignments tab. List of different types of Reports that can be run Once your class has taken a test and all of the answers have been graded, you are able to run a variety of reports on the results. You can run reports on the students’ core performance on their assignments in terms of a percentage of questions answered correctly, looking at both individual and overall classroom performances. You can also run reports based on standards. These reports will associate student work to state standards and tell you how your class did on a given performance standard. You can also run reports based on the No Child Left Behind demographic categories, allowing you to quickly tell where different NCLB groups stand. 10
