2. Pythagoras (570 B.C. – 490 B.C.) He lived in Samos, Greece. He discovered the study of proportion, the study of plane and solid geometry, number theory and the theory of proof.

3. Aristotle (384 B.C. – 322 B.C.) He lived in Stagira, Greece. He was the teacher and educator of Alexander the Great. Aristotle educated Alexander in medicine, philosophy, math, morals, religion, logic and art. Later a school was named after him.

4. Euclid ( 300 B.C.) He is known as the Father of Geometry Euclid’s most well-known attribute to mathematics is a book called Elements. He made this book so people could have an easy way to reference math terms and equations. A similar version of this book is used today. One of the oldest surviving fragments of Euclid's Elements, found at Oxyrhynchus and dated to circa AD 100 (P. Oxy. 29). 5. Archimedes (287 B.C. – 212 B.C.) His greatest discoveries had to do with volume and buoyancy. Archimedes is said to have found out how to find volume by water displacement. He also discovered the relationship between the surface area of a cylinder and sphere.

6. Eratosthenes ( 276 B.C. – 194 B.C.) He was the first to calculate the circumference of Earth. He also calculated the tilt of the Earth’s axis with accuracy. He invented leap year to make sure the calendar would be on track with the sun. Because of him we have an understanding of calculations.
