2  A Mutation is any change in DNA  A mutation can change the phenotype and fitness of an organism  Fitness – an organisms ability to survive and reproduce. Genetic Variation

3 Mutations  Sex cell mutation – occur in sex cells (gametes), don’t affect organism but can be passed on.  Somatic mutation – occur in body cells, skin cancer and leukemia, not passed on.  Lethal mutation – cause death usually before birth
