Bouncing Bayer Ball uDu WARNING! Don’t be a reptile! Butyl ButadieneStyrene-butadiene PolyneoprenePolynorbornene

Bouncing Bayer Ball uDu Suppose your Bayer ball is lifted from the ground to a height of 1 meter … Where will the ball have its maximum PE? (You better get this right!) How much PE will it have there? (You’ll have to measure the masses…) 1. 2. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS IN YOUR NOTEBOOK ! Butyl ButadieneStyrene-butadiene PolyneoprenePolynorbornene

Bouncing Bayer Ball uDu If you drop the ball, when or where will it have its maximum KE? How much KE will it have? Think “Conservation of Energy” ! Will the ball bounce back up to its original height? Why or why not? No lame answers allowed. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Bouncing Bayer Ball uDu TRY IT! Drop your Bayer ball from 1 m and spot how high it bounces. Do three trials and average them. (Record your result) What percent of the original PE remained at the end of the first bounce? What percent of the energy was “lost”? Where did that energy go? 7. 8. 9. 10.

Bouncing Bayer Ball uDu Now, rotate the different Bayer Balls around among lab groups. Everyone should measure the energy losses for all five balls. Be sure to summarize your results in a nice, tidy table. Finally, try to explain WHY one type of rubber might lose more energy than another. 11. 12.
