Security and Shelter The classroom should provide a sense of physical and psychological safety for the students. Having stuffed animals around the room helps create psychological security for the students. It gives a sense of home-ness which could provide comfort to the students. Also, having familiar characters, as such, aids in the comforting aspect.

Social Contact The set up of the classroom should reflect how the teacher expects interaction among the students. The students’ desks are arranged in groups of four. This allows for social contact between the students.

Symbolic Identification
The students’ classroom should reflect students’ backgrounds and achievements. The word wall is used to represent words the class has learned. This serves as a reminder of the class’s achievements and learning.

Task Instrumentality The classroom should be set up to ensure success of classroom management. Each child having his/her own hook for personal belongings helps aid in time management. They know where to find their things without having to hunt.

Pleasure The classroom should be attractive and visually appealing to the students. This is a popular place in the classroom. The students enjoy reading on the couch.

Growth The classroom should be equipped with resources and materials that encourages intellectual growth. Each of these animals serves a resource when students are having difficulty reading. For instance, they can use stretchy snake when trying to sound out words.
