1 eBuddies for Transition in Wokingham uk.innovativeteachers.com Maiden Erlegh School Author Mr Parras Majithia E-Learning Co-ordinator Maiden Erlegh School (Wokingham LA) The purpose of the project is to give Year 6 pupils a clearer idea of what starting at Maiden Erlegh is like (from a Year 7’s perspective) and be more informed about what to expect when joining the School. In addition, it enables our Year 7s to be empowered with some responsibility, and to return to their previous schools with the ability to show how well they are getting on. Objectives UniServity Learning Platform/IE/Photostory/Windows Media Player/Word/Powerpoint Software Description Year 7 students wrote blogs to reflect on their first day, first week and first half-term at Maiden Erlegh. These blogs were be published on ME-Space, the Maiden Erlegh Learning Platform, and made available for Year 6 pupils from all our feeder primary schools to access and read. Following visits (taking 4 Y7s to each school) to some of the primary schools to provide an introduction to the project, and some training, we set up discussion forums on ME- Space for our Year 7s and the Year 6s to “talk” to each other on. The Year 6’s posted questions for our Y7s to respond to. 5 eBuddies for Transition in Wokingham uk.innovativeteachers.com Maiden Erlegh School Teacher and School Information Maiden Erlegh School is a highly successful and oversubscribed 11-18 secondary school in the Wokingham LA. We are a specialist college for Visual Arts, and Business & Enterprise. These themes are reflected in the work that we do to support our students throughout their time at the school. Parras Majithia is E-Learning Co-ordinator and has taken a lead in developing innovative ways of engaging students through E-Learning. During 2008-9, part of his work focussed on developing closer working relationships with the feeder Primary schools to support the existing transition arrangements thereby ensuring a smoother and more seamless move for Y6 pupils as they become Y7 students at Maiden Erlegh.
