Luke 9:18-50

Luke 9:18-20 “One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only His disciples were with Him, and He asked them, Who do people say I am “Who do people say I am?” ‎ “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other ancient prophets risen from the dead.” ‎

20 Then He asked them, But who do you say I am “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah sent from God!”

Matthew 16:16 “Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”

Matthew 16:17 “Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven but My Father who is in heaven.”

“I cannot describe all that Christ is to us, for what is He not to us? He is the sun of our day; He is the star of our night; He is our life; He is our life’s life; He is our heaven on earth, and He shall be our heaven in heaven.” C. H. Spurgeon

John 4:25-26, “The woman ( at the well ) said to Him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When He comes, He will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am He.’"

Luke 9:21 “Jesus warned His disciples not to tell anyone who He was.

“Luke 9:21–22 clearly reveals why His messianic identity had to be kept secret. Jesus had the goal of the cross and ascension before Him, not great public recognition. He would leave the worldwide spread of His reputation up to His Spirit-empowered followers.” Hughes and Laney

Luke 9:22 The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,” He said. “The Son of Man must suffer many terrible things,” He said. “He will be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law the teachers of religious law. He will be killed, but on the third day He will be raised from the dead He will be raised from the dead.”

“Jesus had already given a number of “hints” about His sacrificial death, but now He began to teach this truth clearly to His disciples. John the Baptist had presented Him as the “Lamb of God” (John 1:29), and Jesus had predicted the “destruction” of the temple of His body (John 2:19).

When He compared Himself to the serpent in the wilderness (John 3:14) and to Jonah (Matt. 12:38–40), Jesus was making statements about His suffering and death.” Warren Wiersbe

Luke 9:23-26 ‎ “Then He said to the crowd, If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow Me. ‎ “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow Me. ‎ If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it. you will save it. ‎ ‎

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? ‎ “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? ‎ If anyone is ashamed of Me and My message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when He returns in His glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. His glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.”

Luke 14:27-30 “And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple. "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'”

Luke 14:33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple cannot be My disciple.”

Matthew 7:14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Luke 9:27 “I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:28-29 “About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. ‎ And as He was praying, the appearance of His face was transformed, and His clothes became dazzling white. ‎

Luke 9:30-31 “Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus. They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about His exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.” ‎

2Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

“The theological name for this experience is sanctification, the process by which we become more like the Lord Jesus Christ, which is the Father’s goal for each of His children.” Warren W. Wiersbe

Luke 9:32-36 “Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with Him. ‎ As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out,

‘Master, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials— one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ ‎ But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them. ‎

Then a voice from the cloud said, “This is My Son, My Chosen One. Listen to Him.” ‎ When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone. They didn’t tell anyone at that time what they had seen.”

Deuteronomy 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,”
