Alternative Energy

Solar Energy Solar energy is exactly as it sounds. Energy from the sun. We often harness the suns energy by using things called solar panels. Things called photons radiate off the sun and hit silicon (metal) in the solar panels. Then loose electrons get transferred making energy.

Solar Energy This form of energy will be around as long as humans are. The sun is constantly burning and giving off heat and energy. When it burns out we, as humans we would die immediately and would no longer need energy.

Solar Energy ●Some Pros: ●Pollution Free ●Very Viable ●Natural ●Readily Available ●Cons: ●Expensive

Solar Energy We see this energy is often used in calculators, and it's more increasingly popular in powering houses. Although it's pricey at first, it will eventually pay itself off in the saved energy bills. In Germany and other European countries they use solar energy as a main source. Especially on highways and city areas.

Solar Energy I personally do enjoy and agree with this form of energy, it is pollution free and very long lasting. It may be pricey but as the market increases the price will go down. I can see solar energy being a main major source of energy in the future, and many houses.

Biomass Biomass energy is energy stored in living or recently living things, mmusually plants. As we know plants absorb energy from the sun through a process called photosynthesis. When biomass is burned it releases heat energy, or thermal energy. It also releases carbon dioxide. This happens because plants also need it to photosynthesize, and is released when we burn the plants.

Biomass This form of energy is fairly viable, as we just need plants. So we don’t cut excessive amounts of trees some farmers grow “ energy crops”. Crops dedicated to biomass energy.

Biomass Pros: ●Natural ●Viable ●Cheaper Cons ●Some pollution ●Potential environmental impact

Biomass Biomass is usually converted into electrical energy, and until 2009 biomass was the largest source of renewable electricity in North America. Today biomass is still a common form of electrical energy, used in many ways from powering houses to charging cars.

Biomass Personally I do like this energy source in small amounts. As long as we are not clear cutting plants, and burning excessive amounts, causing a lot of pollution emissions.

Questions 10 Questions Solar: Questions: 1:T or F: Solar energy only comes from the sun? 2: What do we use to harvest solar energy? 3: Is there any pollution emissions from solar energy? 4: Why do you think solar energy is so expensive? 5: Explain how we harvest solar energy. Biomass: Questions: 1:T or F: Biomass energy only comes from trees? 2:How is the sun related to biomass energy? 3: Why is their carbon dioxide releases? 4: What immediate form of energy is biomass? 5: What could be an environmental impact of this energy source?
