2. Background John grew up in Rutland, Vermont. He began to work as a blacksmith. John opened a his first blacksmith shop in Leicester, Vermont. 2 of his children died when they were young.

3. 1837 He made his first steel plow. His son Charles was born in march.

4. 1848 John moved his business to Moline in July. John moved without his family.

5. 1865 Demarus, his wife, died at home. John got remarried.

6. 1873 He became mayor of Moline. He was 69 years old.

7. 1886 He died on May 17. He was the age of 82.

8. Character Traits *He was a nice man because he made farming easier for people. *He was good at thinking because he made a better tractor so you could plow the field faster.
