His enamelware factory in Krakow, Poland 1939 War began

Krakow Ghetto continued…

If you saw a dog going to be crushed under a car, wouldn’t you help him? Asked why he had intervened on behalf of the Jews, Schindler replied: “The persecution of Jews in the General Government in Polish territory gradually worsened in its cruelty. In 1939 and 1940 they were forced to wear the Star of David and were herded together and confined in ghettos. In 1941 and 1942 this unadulterated sadism was fully revealed. And then a thinking man, who had overcome his inner cowardice, simply had to help. There was no other choice.” —Oskar Schindler, 1964 interview.

CST Themes Life & Dignity of the Human Person Preferential Option for the Poor & Vulnerable

What is there to say? They are my friends. I would do it again, over & over – for I hate cruelty & intolerance.

It is his actions that matter now, testimony that even in the worst of circumstances, the most ordinary of us can act courageously. If Oskar Schindler, flawed as he was, did it, then so might we, and that is reason enough to hope. “It is his actions that matter now, testimony that even in the worst of circumstances, the most ordinary of us can act courageously. 12 Name: Life Dates: Biography: Oskar Schindler Righteous Among the Nations Oskar Schindler 1908-1974 Schindler, a Catholic who in appearance was tied with the Nazi party, was a hero of the Holocaust. He showed concern for Life & Dignity of the Human Person by caring for his factory employees and their children. He was outraged by intolerance & cruelty & fought back against the system. He also lived out the theme of The Preferential Option for the Poor & Vulnerable. He realized people’s basic needs must be met before he & others had access to non-essential things. Schindler ended up dying penniless, risking all he had to save the lives of 1,200 Jewish people. WORKS CITED: www.ushmm.org

WHAT NOT TO DO “Oskar Schindler was born on April 28, 1908 in Svitavy (Zwittau), Moravia, at that time a province of the Austro-Hungary Monarchy.” In 1938, he worked for the Amt Auslands/Abwehr (Office of the Military Foreign Intelligence). He opened an enamelware plant in Krakow called Emalwarenfabrik Oskar Schindler (German Enamelware Factory Oskar Schinder) also known as Emalia. He lived out Preferential Option for the Poor & Vulnerable because he cared about Jews & the poor. No wikipedia cites!

Reminders/Pointers (1.)As a whole, the orange research sheets were not well done. You needed to read about the person & THEN plug in 8 relevant details. (2.)Some did not even mention 2 CST themes. Refer to the slides. You should be using phrases like marginalized, preferential option for the poor, subjective aspect of work, stewardship, etc. Connect your hero to the themes! Your trading card should be worded around the themes!

(3.)“Signs of the Times” info/pictures may require some creative research. (4.)No wikipedia cites. You must cite sources on your card & on your PowerPoint. (5.)You will not earn full points for simply standing up here. Make your presentations interesting……… or else.
