1 Presentation KinderCampus Primary School and After School (4-12 years old) 200 children in 8 groups 4 groups for children 4-7 years old (max 27 children /1 group/1 teacher) 2 groups for children 8-9 years old (max 27 children /1 group /1 teacher) 2 groups for children 10-12 years old (max 27 children / 1 group/1 teacher) School hours: 8.15/8.30-14.30 (Monday, Tuesday, Thirsday, Friday 8-12 years old), 8.15-12.00/12.30 (Wednesday, Friday 4-7 years old) After school hours: everyday till 18.30 h, in schoolholidays 8.30-18.30 h; not every child is going to the after school: Parents can choose for it (they have to pay for it extra) Children can go 1 till 5 days to the afterschool Every child has to go to the Primary School when he/she is 5 years old, Most children start at 4 years old

2 Preschools in the Netherlands (0-4 years) Not every child is going to a Preschool: Parents in the Netherlands can work part time and some days 1 of the parents is at home to take care for the children. Most parents work parttime. Sometimes grandparents are caring for children some days and there are also families with a Nanny. There are 2 types of preschools: o Child care for children 0-4 years old (Kinderdagverblijf): 8.00-18.00/18.30, parents can choose 2 – 5 days a week. o Education for children 2-4 years old (Peuterspeelzaal, 2 or 3 days a week, half of the day)

3 Primary schools in the Netherlands (4-12 years old) There is a freedom of education: parents can choose the Primary School they like. They can choose for a school in their neighbourhood or a school with a special pedagogic or religious style (Municipal, Katholic, Protestant, Islamitic, All Primary Schools in Hilversum are free for children: the Government pays for the Primary Schools. The Municipality cares for the buildings of the schools. There are also schools for children with special needs, sometimes this children can stay in a regular school with some extra help. There are a few kinds of Primary Schools in Hilversum with a special pedagogic style: o Most schools in Hilversum are teacher-centered o There are 2 Montessorischools, o 1 Jenaplanschool and 1 ErvaringsGericht Onderwijs o Experiential Education/Approach (de KinderCampus)

4 Secondary schools in the Netherlands (12-16/18 years) Several levels: VMBO (4 years), HAVO (5 years), VWO (6 years), Gymnasium (6 years, including Greek or/and Latin) Municipal, Katholic, Protestant, Islamitic (not in Hilversum) Mostly teacher centered, only a few schools are more child centered

6 Our education: Groups with mixed ages (4-7, 8-9, 10-12 years old); like it is in a family Children can learn lots of each other, every child is ones the youngest or the oldest; we think it is important for children to change these roles. Working on themes, like the project about monks and castles. This period we start the theme Water in all groups.; within a theme we learn children playing with each other, role-play, reading, writing, about nature, geographic, history, maths, construct, making own plans, experiment with several materials, making art (drawing, painting, make constructions), dance,… Short instructions for little groups about reading, writing, mathematics. Essembly; the start and finish of each day Contractwork: children from the age of 6 has their own contract with work for 1 day or 1 week Working with individual portfolio’s: in the portfolio you can see the individual development of each child

7 Day on the KinderCampus 8.15/8.30: Children come in the school 8.45: Parents are leaving 9.00-9.15/9.30: Assembly; Welcoming, talk about the program of the day. 9.30-10.15: Working /playing in little groups/instructions 10.15-10.30: Drinking and eating together 10.30-12.00: Playing outside, working on contracts, working /playing in little groups

8 12.00-12.30: Younger children play outside, older children read and eat lunch together. 12.30-13.00: Younger children eat lunch. older children play outside 13.00-13.10: Short assembly about the program of the afternoon: children can choose a workshop; “ateliertime” 13.10-14.00: Children are playing and working the “ateliertime” 14.00-14.30: Assembly; reflection of the day, make new plans for another day. 14.30: Children are going to their homes or to the After School. 18.15-18.30: After School is closing
