2 What is a prefix? A prefix is added to a root word (sometimes called a base word) to change the meaning of the word. For example: kind is a root word and means nice and “un” is a prefix which means “not.” If I put the two together it becomes un + kind = unkind or “not nice”

3 Prefixes and their meanings un – not, reverse of dis – off, not, away, down pre – before mis – bad, poorly, not re - again, back
