5 What Does Research Tell Us About Abuse, Neglect and Violent Crime Our criminal systems are full of childhood victims of abuse and neglect 75% of convicted sex offenders were victims of sexual abuse Domestically violent offenders were most likely victims of abuse and neglect and witness to domestic violence as children (Roger Friedman, 2912)

6 Administration of Children and Families Says: “ There is a growing body of evidence indicating that while ensuring safety and achieving permanency are necessary to assure wellbeing, they are not sufficient alone. Research now demonstrates that most of the adverse effects of maltreatment are concentrated in behavior, emotional and social domains and these effects ripple across the lifespan, limiting children’s chances to success in school, work and relationships and ultimately detrimentally impact our society.” (ACF, 2012)

7 “What the best and wisest parent wants for his own child must be what the community wants for all its children.” - John Dewey
