4 Lesson 40 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 The next day, the authorities order Paul & Silas released…the jailer relays the message to Paul vv. 35-36 Paul refuses to go quietly… “They have beaten us & imprisoned us who are Romans. Let them come and get us.” v. 37

5 Lesson 40 – In Macedonia 16:9-40 The now scared authorities come & release Paul, beg him to leave the city vv. 38-39 Upon being released, Paul & Silas make a return visit to Lydia’s house and then depart v. 40

6 Lesson 41 – In Thessalonica 17:1-9 Luke switches the pronouns back to “they” and “them” v. 1a He remained in Philippi cp. 20:1-6

8 Lesson 41 – In Thessalonica 17:1-9 Paul kept his “custom”…he entered the synagogue and taught the Jews for 3 Sabbaths vv. 1b-3 Some Jews were persuaded, along with a great multitude of Greeks & a number of leading women v. 4

9 Lesson 41 – In Thessalonica 17:1-9 Other Jews opposed Paul, formed a mob with wicked men from the marketplace, and “set the city in an uproar” v. 5a Not finding Paul at Jason’s house, they dragged out Jason & others and charged them before the authorities vv. 5b-7

10 Lesson 41 – In Thessalonica 17:1-9 This appears to be the first time a Christian other than an apostle has suffered directly for the gospel cp. Heb 10:32-34 Because of the Jews, the crowds were “stirred up”…bond money was collected from Jason vv. 8-9 1 Thess 2:14b-20

15 Lesson 41 – In Berea 17:10-15 Many in Berea believed v. 12 The Thessalonian Jews oppose again v. 13 Again, Paul must leave…Silas & Timothy remain behind v. 14 Paul is taken to Athens, orders Silas & Timothy to come to him quickly v. 15
