5.  Moral actions are right or wrong according to how they fit the preferences of those involved. Everyone’s preferences or interests are weighed equally.  Singer argued that the right thing to do is what is in the best interests of the greatest number, rather than simply the result of calculating pleasure against pain.  Singer sought a way of decision-making which would take into account the views of minorities.  E.g killing a person who prefers to go on living would be wrong, even if killing them would result in more people being saved. For debate: Do you agree that attempting to maximise people’s preferences takes into account minority views?
