4 Alexander Fleming Born on August 6, 1881 1903, enrolled in St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in Paddington 1908, he gained a BSc degree with Gold Medal in Bacteriology December 23, 1915, he married Sarah McElroy, a trained nurse He served in WWI as a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps 1927, he was investigating the properties of staphylococci 1928, he was elected Professor of Bacteriology of the University of London March 7, 1929, he discovered Penicillin 1929, he published his discovery in the British Journal of Experimental Pathology 1940s, with the help of Ernst Boris Chain and Howard Florey, they isolated and concentrated the penicillin and began mass-producing it 1945, Fleming, Florey, and Chain receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine 1955, he died of a heart attack
