Welcome to AB140 Introduction to Management Unit 8 Seminar Ethics and Social Responsibility

Week 9 Assignments Discussion Assignment Seminar Review

Week 9 Assignments - Discussion One Sandwich Blitz location is near a public assistance housing complex, which is populated by a large segment of displaced natural disaster victims, many of whom are of various ethnic minority groups. While sales are still good, this location has been the target of two armed robberies over the past year. Some employees have voiced their concern over working at this particular location. Local community leaders have urged Dalman and Lei to keep this location open and told them about a local neighborhood improvement initiative designed to make this neighborhood safer and more attractive. Sandwich Blitz has one more year left on a five-year lease agreement. Refer to textbook; then discuss the concept of corporate social responsibility as it applies to this scenario. Based on your reading on Corporate Social Responsibility what should Lei and Dalman do in this situation? In your response make sure to refer to textbook material.

Week 8 Assignments 1 of 4 This week's Assignment consists of viewing a scenario about Sandwich Blitz, Inc., reading an article about integrity in leadership, and writing a two-page double-spaced paper.

Week 8 Assignment 2 of 4 Each Sandwich Blitz location is situated on very small parcels of land. This original strategy has contributed to somewhat lower operating expenses for the business and both Dalman and Lei view this as a competitive advantage. Based on new local health codes, new laws have been issued requiring trash dumpsters be a minimum distance of 30 feet (9.144 meters) from the rear entrance of the building. New land-use laws require that all out buildings be at least 6 feet (1.8288 meters) from the property lines. The enclosure that houses the trash dumpster is 5 feet (1.524 meters) from the property lines, which is in violation of those laws. The government inspector has told the unit manager that he would be willing to approve this if Sandwich Blitz provides the food for his department's holiday party. The location manager has conveyed this information to Dalman.

Week 8 – Assignment 3 of 4 “The integrity of a business organization and its leaders is a universally accepted component of business ethics. In his ‘Eight Steps toward Integrity’ Stratford Sherman outlines eight ways in which business leaders can manage a business organization with integrity. After reading the Sandwich Blitz scenario above, visit the Kaplan Library and read Sherman’s Eight Steps toward Integrity on page 45 of the following article: Rethinking Integrity By: Sherman, Stratford. Leader to Leader, Spring 2003, Vol. 2003 Issue 28, p39- 45, 7p. This can be found in the Business Source Complete Database.

Week 9 Assignment – 4 of 4 After reviewing these Eight Steps, write a paper of at least two full double-spaced pages in length responding to the following: Explain which of these eight steps apply to Dalman and the Location Manager in this particular situation and why. Respond to the question in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of which of the eight steps apply to the situation and why you believe this is the case.
