How To: Wiki for Dr. Kariuki Kasie Culi kacul1@morgan.edu For instructional purposes ONLY.

First Open TEN blank documents in Microsoft Word At the bottom of each document, insert these words: Introduction Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 [UP TO PAGE 10] You are required to have an Introduction, 10 pages, and the work you have done in Dr. Kariuki’s class… like your Chapter PowerPoint, Brochure/Newsletter, etc. Anything that has been presented or sent to Dr. Kariuki for a grade must be added to the bottom of each document. Example: Introduction Page1…10 Chapter 3 ppt Brochure Newsletter

Then Find your topic for your Wiki, based on Education or a topic you would like to teach student about through your wiki. Example: bullying, ways to study, marijuana, etc. Add titles to each page and insert information based on your research within each page. Make each page of your wiki on MICROSOFT WORD FIRST !!!!!!! This is your copy of your website. So own it, be proud of it, and do it well!

Here is an example of my first page with titles and references:

Next After you have physically made each page of your wiki through MICROSOFT WORD, reread your pages to ensure they are PERFECT. You are to SAVE EACH PAGE as the DESIGNATED PAGE NUMBER in ORDER of how you want your wiki to be. Example: Save your “Introduction” as “Introduction” Save your “Page 1 Bullying” as “Page 1”

YOU SHOULD HAVE EACH PAGE SAVED include an introduction page (which I did not do)

Your Word document should reflect how you want your Wiki to be

NOW YOU ARE READY TO BEGIN YOUR WIKI Open your wiki…. Log into pbworks.com Click on your “Workspace” Look for the icon that says “Pages & Files” Click on that. Look for the icon that says “+New” (VIEW NEXT SLIDE TO SEE WHERE THIS IS) Click on that. Make a new FOLDER. Name your folder something you can remember, like “wiki for kariuki” or something of that sort.

Here is where NEW is…

THEN… Go back to “Pages & Files” and create a PAGE. Use your DOCUMENTS from MICROSOFT WORD. INSERT YOUR INTRODUCTION (COPY AND PASTE FROM YOUR COMPLETED INTRODUCTION MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT) to your new wiki page. (VIEW NEXT SLIDE TO SEE AN EXAMPLE) Make sure you copy “Introduction Page1….10 etc” PRESS SAVE.

COPY FROM MICROSOFT WORD… PASTE INTO WIKI. THEY SHOULD BE THE SAME.

Now… You have saved your first page, which is your Introduction….right? Right. Now you are to copy the URL/ADDRESS of your Introduction, then hit “Edit” directly underneath the Toolbar Menu.

COPY LINK… CLICK EDIT…

Highlight Introduction Click add link SCROLL DOWN AND PRESS SAVE!!!!!!

Congratulations… You still have more to do… Don’t worry…

Now go back and make a new PAGE Click “Create Page” You are now on Page 1…. Paste your information from PAGE 1 of your MICROSOFT WORD document. At the bottom of page 1…. Highlight “Introduction” again and add the link… again.

NOW… REPEAT THE PROCESS OF SAVING YOUR PAGE, COPYING THE URL OF THE CURRENT PAGE, AND ADDING THAT LINK TO “Page 1”. You are to repeat adding the links of your current page to all of your previous pages. This ensures easy navigation for YOU and DR. KARIUKI…. Who is giving you your grade.

AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED… PLEASE UPLOAD ALL OF YOUR MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENTS TO YOUR FOLDER THAT YOU MADE. DR. KARIUKI WANTS TO SEE YOUR WORK.

***reminders*** Add the URLs from your research to your Microsoft word document. Link that URL on your wiki This link is based on this paragraph…

***reminders*** There should be an easy navigation through your pages. Font should all be the same. Make it look as professional as possible. Don’t forget to add the work you have done in his class!!!!

…one last thing… I have made this PowerPoint out of the kindness of my heart. I did not have to give additional help. I am not being paid. I am not the professor. Dr. Kariuki should explain this… but I’m sure he knows how to explain this, and would rather have a student relate to other students…. Don’t take this for granted.

Good luck. Don’t email/call/text. If you still are confused…… go through this PowerPoint as you are doing your wiki. -Kasie Culi
