2 WATERGATE the most prominent political story of the 1970s is Watergate Watergate is a complex of buildings in Washington, D.C. thanks to an informant calling themselves “Deep Throat,” Washington Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein connected a break-in at the complex all the way up to the Nixon administration rather than be impeached, Nixon resigned

4 WATERGATE Nixon’s resignation angered many young people who thought that Nixon should have been held accountable for his crimes in a television interview with David Frost, Nixon finally recognized that his government acted illegally it didn’t matter Nixon’s replacement, Gerald Ford, pardoned Nixon to try and heal the country Ford is also remembered for falling down the stairs of Air Force One

5 JOE CLARK the state of the economy in the late seventies was enough for Canadians to vote out the Trudeau Liberals and bring in the Progressive Conservatives led by Joe Clark Clark, however, was unable to handle stagflation — the steady rise of inflation and unemployment

6 JOE CLARK when Clark pondered selling Petro-Canada, Canadians grew upset because it could translate into higher fuel costs Clark also wanted to cut spending on key programs Clark’s government fell and was voted out — putting Trudeau back in

8 JIMMY CARTER one of Joe Clark’s problems was foreign policy the same thing sunk the next American president, Jimmy Carter in 1979, Carter was able to negotiate a peace agreement between Egypt and Israel that saw the Sinai desert returned to Egypt in exchange for a promise of peace these Camp David Accords are still in place today but then came Iran….
