THE CALL TO WORSHIP [ Pastor / CONGREGATION ] “I will make you into a great nation,” says the Lord. “And I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing to all the earth.” RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION, BUT SIN IS A DISGRACE TO ANY PEOPLE.

O Lord, You have enlarged our nation and increased our joy and we rejoice before You as people rejoice at the harvest. OPEN THE GATES THAT THE RIGHTEOUS NATIONS MAY ENTER, THE NATIONS THAT KEEP FAITH WITH THE LORD. [ Based on Genesis 1:22; Proverbs 14:34; Isaiah 9:3; Isaiah 26:2 ]

**THE OPENING HYMN #731 ‘ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS’ [ All who are able please stand ]

Onward, Christian soldiers,(1) marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle see his banners go! Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph (2) Satan's host does flee; on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory! Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise; Christians, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Like a mighty army (3) moves the church of God; Christians, we are treading where the saints have trod. We are not divided, all one body we, one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Onward then, you people, (4) join our happy throng, blend with ours your voices in the triumph song. Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King, this through countless ages men and angels sing. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before.

**AFFIRMING OUR FAITH AND NATION I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands; One Savior, crucified, risen and coming again, with life and liberty for all who believe. One family in Christ, uniting all believers in service and in love.

I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word: 'A lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path;' Its words will I hide in my heart that I might not sin against God.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their sinful ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

**THE SONG OF RESPONSE If My people’s hearts are humbled, If they pray and seek My face; If they turn away from evil I will not withhold My grace. I will hear their prayers from heaven; I will pardon every sin. If My people’s hearts are humbled, I will surely heal their land.

Then My eyes will see their sorrow, Then My ears will hear their plea. If My people’s hearts are humbled, I will set their nation free. If My people’s hearts are humbled, If they pray and seek My face; If they turn away from evil I will not withhold My grace. (Praising God for the forgiveness of our sins)

REMEMBERING AND THANKING OUR MILITARY VETERANS REMEMBERING THOSE IN OUR FAMILIES WHO HAVE DIED SINCE MEMORIAL DAY 2015

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE Joshua 4:1-9 Elder Neil VanDerJagt, CPA When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”

So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them,“Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.

These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, as the Lord had told Joshua; and they carried the stones over with them to their camp, where they put them down. Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day.

THE SONG OF PREPARATION #807 MY COUNTRY, ‘TIS OF THEE

MY COUNTRY TIS OF THEE (1) My country, 'tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims' pride, From ev'ry mountainside Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee, (2) Land of the noble free, Thy name I love; I love thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture thrills, Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze, (3) And ring from all the trees Sweet freedom's song; Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break, The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God to Thee, (4) Author of liberty, To Thee we sing. Long may our land be bright, With freedom's holy light, Protect us by Thy might, Great God our King.

Honoring the sacrifices made by our nation’s men and women does not, mean that we should glorify war which is terrible and gruesome, BUT sometimes war is very necessary in a cruel, despotic world. So we must be ever vigilant and, when necessary, be ready to stand up and fight for that which is RIGHT, NOBLE and JUST.

THE CLOSING HYMN #808 ‘ETERNAL FATHER, STRONG TO SAVE’

(1) Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm has bound the restless wave, Who bids the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea!

(2) O Christ, the Lord of hill and plain O’er which our traffic runs amain By mountain pass or valley low; Where ever, Lord, our soldiers go; Protect them by Your guiding hand From every peril on the land.

(3) O Spirit, whom the Father sent To spread abroad the firmament O wind of heaven, by your might Save all who dare the eagle’s flight; And keep them in Your watchful care From every peril in the air.

(4) O Trinity of love and power, Our loved ones shield in danger’s hour; From rock and tempest, fire and foe, Protect them where so e’er they go; Thus evermore shall rise to Thee Glad praise from air and land and sea.

THE PASTORAL BENEDICTION ‘God Bless America’ God bless America, Land that I love; Stand beside her and guide her, Through the night with a light from above; From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans white with foam; God bless America, my home, sweet home. (Words & Music: Irving Berlin, 1938/39)
