1 UNIT 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Line weight and Line types)
Objectives: Be able to identify, describe and/or apply… AutoCAD properties panel (Line weights, line styles, and properties Access the line type manager to change line weight and line type Standard line conventions to different drawing situations Assignments/Quizzes/Tests 6-1 Line weights and Conventions 6-2 Line Conventions and Uses Unit Test 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Line weight and Line Type

2 UNIT 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Lineweight)
Displays the available lineweights to be applied. Available lineweights consist of fixed values that are most commonly used in drawings. Show/Hide Lineweight Must be turned on to display lineweight in drawing Right-click on show/hide lineweight toggle to select settings

3 UNIT 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Linetypes)
Select “Load” for different linetypes

4 UNIT 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Line Conventions ASME Y14.2M)
Drawings completed using a CAD system follow a set of standards designed to make them easy to read and interrupt. These standards have been created by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In general most companies use .6mm for thick lines and .3mm for thin lines, however these can vary.

Object Lines Also called visible lines. A line used to define the shape and size of a part feature. Object lines are solid. Hidden Lines Dashed lines that show invisible features. Dashes are 3mm or .125” long and spaced 1.5mm or .06” Centerlines A line used to define the center of a symmetrical part. Center lines consist of alternating long and short dashes.

Extension Lines A line used to visually connect the ends of a dimension line to the relevant feature on the part. Extension lines are solid and are drawn perpendicular to the dimension line. Dimension Lines A line used to define the measurement of a part feature. Dimension lines consist of a solid line with arrows at both ends and a dimension in the center. Leader Lines A thin line with an arrow head that is often positioned at an angle and is used to tie a dimension to a feature

7 UNIT 6: AutoCAD Properties Panel (Line Conventions ASME Y14.2M)
Arrow Shows Direction of sight Cutting Plane Line A line used to define the location of the imaginary cut that creates the matching section view. Cutting plane lines consist of two short dashes alternating with a longer dash. Cutting Plane Label Section Lines A line used to identify the imagined cut portion of a part in a section view. Section lines appear as a series of diagonal lines drawn close together. Section View Label A SECTION A-A

Phantom Lines Show alternate positions that part can move to. Lines consist of two short dashes and a long dash. Short dashes are 3mm or .125” and long dashes are 19mm-38mm or .75” to 1.5”

Break Lines When an extended part of an object has a continuous shape and size, you can save space by abbreviating the object using zigzag or wavy lines.    The two types of break lines are long break lines and short break lines. Long break Lines: Long  break  lines  are  ruled  lines  with  freehand zigzags that reduce the size of the drawing required to delineate an object and reduce detail. Short Break Lines:    To indicate a short break in an object, use thick, solid, wavy freehand lines. Rods, tubes, and bars have additional conventions that not only break their length but also imply the material or texture of the object.
