2 Distance from the sun-- Approximately 93 miles Ninth Planet From the Sun Number of moons -- 1 Diameter-- 7600 miles Number of Rings-- 0 Rotation-- 24 hours Revolution-- 365 days Name-- Comes from old English in German Terrestrial planet Inner Planet

3  Our home planet has many “layers” ranging from a very dense inner core made mostly of iron to the outside layer which we live on.  In between the solid central core of our planet and the outer later that we live on is what amounts to a vast sea of molten, or semi-melted rock. This molten layer called “magma” is very hot and occasionally breaks through, or erupts to the surface.  Many features on our planet, including the Hawaiian Islands which are a direct result of this volcanic activity. After a volcanic eruption occurs, the melted rock called “ lava” that makes it to the surface cools off and eventually changes back into solid rock. If enough eruptions occur at the same place, the rock that accumulates forms islands in oceans or mountains on land.

4 Earths atmosphere contains about 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen and the average temperature is around 14 degrees Celsius. The average surface temperature of Earth is about 15 °C (59 °F).

5 The strength of gravity on Earth is about 10 N/kg (meaning Newton’s per kilogram). This means that a mass of 1 kg has a weight of 10 N. Earth is estimated to weigh 6,585,600,000,000,000,000,000 tons Earth travels through space at 66,700 miles per hour About 70% of Earth is made up of water
