2 Dynamic Signs Dynamics signs indicate the volume, or how soft or loud the music should be played. The dynamics we will discuss are: pp p mp mf f ff

3 Tempo Marks Tempo markings tell us how fast or slow the music should be performed. Some common tempo markings are: adagio andante allegro presto vivace

4 Articulation In Unit Three we will also discuss articulation. This deals with the style in which individual notes or groups of notes should be performed. Some commonly used articulations are: legato staccato slurred

5 Endings There are many descriptive Italian words and which abbreviations composers use to give instruction on whereto procede when performing a piece of music. Some which are most commonly used are: D.C. = da capo = the beginning D.S. = del segno = the sign coda = tail = a separately written ending Fine = the end
